A Deep Dive into Teaching School Swimming and Water Safety
CPD Workshop (5 hours)

This training meets Government/Department for Education (DfE), National Governing Body/Swim Group and PE National Curriculum (2013) for Swimming and Water Safety.

Course Overview and Objectives

Empower your staff base with the knowledge, skills and confidence to teach school swimming and water safety. Our CPD Workshop is designed to support and develop educators’ essential skills for delivering safe, structured and effective school swimming lessons.

This practical training workshop’s objectives are as follows:

  • To identify and work towards Primary PE National Curriculum (2013) requirements for swimming and water safety.
  • To identify minimum standards for school swimming, as outlined by Swim England and Swimming Teachers Association (STA) (2023).
  • To reflect on the outcomes set out by the Department for Education (DfE), Swim England and STA and consider priorities for your setting.
  • To understand that the key components of swimming are taught using Swim England’s BLABT teaching approach (Body position, Leg action, Arm action, Breathing, Timing/coordination)
  • To understand the roles and responsibilities of teachers and adults in the delivery of school swimming lessons.
  • To improve the demonstration of key swimming skills, drills and strokes.
  • To understand that there is flexibility in how school swimming lessons are delivered and assessed.
  • To reflect on the teachings of the workshop and how this will change the delivery of school swimming lessons in the future.

What do Delegates Receive?

Join us for a 5-hour, hands-on workshop designed to elevate your understanding and teaching of swimming – in line with National Curriculum (2013) standards. This interactive session will sharpen your demonstration of key skills, drills, and strokes using engaging tools, such as floats and noodles. You’ll also receive our comprehensive workbook, often referred to as the “bible” for school swimming and water safety, to guide your ongoing practice. Ideal for educators dedicated to fostering both water safety and confidence in their students.

Each delegate will have the opportunity to:

  • Practise swimming demonstrations using swimming floats and noodles alongside other learners.

Each delegate will receive and take away with them:

£170 per delegate.

Our Workbook (worth £40!) is included as part of this CPD Workshop.

Upcoming Training and Events

Each year, we aim to deliver at least one CPD Workshop in each of the listed local authorities. The number of courses may vary based on local uptake.

We are always keen to partner with schools that are willing to host these local authority workshops. In return, hosting schools receive two complimentary delegate places for the CPD event.

Private Booking (On-Site)

Can’t find a course location or date that works for you? We can bring our courses to your school – which perfect for inset days, or days that staff can be released.

Because your school would be providing the space, we in return offer 10% off per delegate. Taking the cost from £170 to £153 per delegate – making it more cost effective.

For our CPD Workshop, we require space in which to practise demonstrations, so the space you provide for our training would need to facilitate this necessity whilst taking into consideration how many staff you and (perhaps) your partner schools are putting forward for the CPD Workshop.

£153 per delegate (10% off), with a minimum of 3 delegates required, plus travel.
