Top-up Swimming

Schools should use their PE and sport premium (if needed) to raise attainment in primary school swimming and water safety by funding top-up swimming sessions for those pupils that do not meet National Curriculum (2013) requirements after they’ve completed core swimming lessons.

They are typically delivered via. intensive swimming lessons spread over ten, 30 minute lessons, every day, over two school weeks.

They can help children achieve specific standards, such as the Key Stage 2 (KS2) standard in swimming and water safety.

Top-up swimming can also help children learn with their peers and avoid embarrassment by learning with younger children.
